What Is PRP Therapy?

Today in aesthetics, we can produce a nonsurgical skin rejuvenation product using your own platelet-rich plasma (PRP). At Aldona J. Spiegel, M.D. in Houston, TX, our PRP therapy is one of the most sought-after treatments we offer our patients. PRP utilizes your very own PRP to stimulate your skin, reduce the prevalence of fine lines, and refresh your overall facial appearance. It can also be performed in conjunction with microneedling for better absorption. For more information about PRP therapy, contact our practice. Board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Aldona J. Spiegel is always happy to discuss all the benefits of PRP and how it can help to enhance the look and health of your skin.

Should I have PRP made for me?

Men and women who would like to improve their skin texture and tone make wonderful candidates for PRP therapy. Since it promotes collagen production naturally, it is also a great treatment choice for refreshing dull or discolored skin. Speak with Dr. Spiegel about your current skin conditions, anemia, or blood disorders to determine whether PRP is safe for you.

How is PRP Made from my blood?

Once you are comfortably seated in one of our tranquil treatment areas, a small amount of blood will be taken from one of your arms and put into a centrifuge machine. We will draw about four tablespoons or one vial worth of blood. After about 15 minutes, the different components of the blood will be separated and ready for injection and/or topical application. We will place the concentrated plasma into a syringe and inject it into the treatment areas. This part of the PRP treatment typically only takes about five minutes, but that can vary patient to patient.

After Platelet-rich plasma

Plasma from PRP therapy promotes the production of elastin and collagen naturally to reveal tauter, more youthful-looking skin. Since it is made of your own blood, there is no risk of allergic or adverse reactions. You should expect your face to be a bit red after the treatment because traces of red blood cells are included in the plasma injection. A cold pack can be applied to the injection site to ease any discomfort and swelling. Dr. Spiegel recommends you undergo treatments in 4 – 6-week intervals to maintain results.
