What are botox Injections?

You can soften wrinkles carefully with BOTOX Cosmetic injections at Aldona J. Spiegel, M.D. in Houston, TX. Let's minimize the effects of aging and decrease the appearance of lines, wrinkles, and lax skin from forming on the top portion of your face. BOTOX can provide gorgeous results for both men and women. Sold by the unit, BOTOX can make a significant enhancement to facial lines and wrinkles from recurrent facial expressions contracting the muscles on your forehead and around your eyes. How? BOTOX is a purified strain of type A botulinum toxin, and when it is injected into the muscle, it temporarily blocks all movements. Performed by our board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Aldona Spiegel, or one of her physician assistants, BOTOX injections are most commonly placed between the eyebrows, on the Crow's feet, and throughout the forehead. Schedule your consultation at our Houston office.

Who is a Candidate for BOTOX?

BOTOX injections are ideal for individuals who want to smooth the appearance of wrinkles, lines, and moderate folds on their upper face in a nonsurgical way. It's a terrific noninvasive approach if you are frustrated by forehead wrinkles or frown lines between the brows. It is also a solution for Crow's feet around the eyes. If you have deeper lines, a combination of BOTOX and a filler may be more suitable. Furthermore, if you are older with sagging skin and widespread wrinkles, you may opt for a more invasive service, such as facelift surgery, for better results.

BOTOX Technique for this injection

BOTOX treatments are performed in our office right here at Aldona J. Spiegel, M.D. We commonly perform the treatment within the same day as your initial consultation. Your injector could be Dr. Spiegel or one of her physician assistants. You will be asked to make several expressions using your upper face muscles, like frowning, squinting, smiling, etc., which will allow us to plan where the injections should be placed. Your face will be prepared for the treatment, and then the BOTOX will be injected under the skin using a fine needle. It will be followed by a cool compress to help prevent bruising, swelling, and discomfort. You can ask for a numbing cream to help make the injection more comfortable, but it usually is not needed. BOTOX injections typically take around 10 – 15 minutes, after which you may resume your normal activities.

After Your BOTOX Session

After the BOTOX injection, you are allowed to resume your daily activities, but strenuous activities, like exercise, should be skipped for at least 24 hours. You will be asked to sleep upright for at least one night and to avoid touching your face, which can accidentally spread the treatment to other areas. The injected areas of the face can appear red, bruised, or swollen for 2 – 3 days, but you will not experience any lasting or serious side effects. In the majority of cases, it takes about 5 – 7 days before the final results of BOTOX are visible. The injections of BOTOX generally last 3 – 4 months. You can talk to your BOTOX injector about when to schedule a follow-up appointment to refresh your results.
